Parliamentary Launch, 17th April 2018.

Portcullis House, London.

On Tuesday 17th April between 2-6 p.m. the British Counties Campaign will hold the Parliamentary Launch in Portcullis House in the Houses of Parliament.

With the Campaign’s Champion MP Mr Henry Smith and a number of cross-party supporters including Mr Jonathan Djanogly MP and Sir David Amess MP in attendance we will officially launch the campaign at 4:30 p.m. on the day.

All MPs, Peers and interested members of the public/press are invited. Media interviews may be arranged in advance.

BRITISH COUNTIES CAMPAIGN (BCC) was set up 2017 to help preserve the 86 traditional counties of England, Scotland and Wales. Action is needed to ensure our counties, so often confused as a result of changes to the administrative map of the land, are preserved into the future as a basis for social and cultural purposes, as well as to act as a very general template for our national infrastructure.

Please come and find out more, and help support our campaign to remove the forced changes in local identity, so resisted by people in the 1960s and 1970s, and preserve our counties as a basis for national geography into the future.

The launch will also feature:

  • Information as to the background of the campaign, its purpose, aims and timescales.
  • An explanation of how MPs and Peers can back us, and why they should do so.
  • Our relaunched Draft Bill for consideration of Parliament.

The event will also feature the launch of an exclusive survey by IPSOS-MORI on county identity and why the so-called “administrative” changes of the 1960s and 1970s have affected so many communities.
